Your shoulders are important. They stand alone in their role and shouldn’t be asked to do double duty. They are not earrings!
Every time we anticipate or worry about something or breathe using our upper chest and neck muscles, our shoulders are creeping up to where they don’t belong.
Keeping your shoulders right under the ear lobes requires a lot of effort from your neck muscles. And, yes, there is a link between that and a chronically sore neck and headaches.

Every time you find yourself hunching up your shoulders, remind your upper body to settle down. Your shoulders will drop to where they belong.
Then, with all the extra energy you saved, take a deep, rib-expanding breath.
